Power rafting on the Aniene

Subiaco

The same water as the soft descent, run properly: wetsuits on, everybody paddling, and the boat put deliberately into the standing waves rather than round them.

How the day goes

  1. Briefing on the bank first, on what to do in the boat and what to do out of it.
  2. Wetsuit, helmet, buoyancy aid and paddle, then in.
  3. The rapids, with the guide calling the strokes and the crew pulling together.
  4. Surfing the waves and jumping in at the end, once the hard part is behind you.

This asks you to paddle hard and stay wedged in a boat while the river throws it about; the soft descent runs the same water without any of that.
