A group abseiling beside a waterfall in a canyon Down the river

Canyoning down to the Laghetto di San Benedetto

Subiaco

The Laghetto di San Benedetto is a green pool in a gorge with no path to it. The only way in is down the river itself, on foot and through the water.

How the day goes

  1. Kit on at the top: everything technical comes from the operator.
  2. Into the gorge, on ropes where the rock drops and slides where the water has polished it.
  3. Jumps into the pools, then the laghetto with the walls closing over it.
  4. Out across a rope traverse and a last jump into the moving water.

It asks you to swim in cold moving water and to let go of a rope over a drop; the rafting from the same base keeps you in a boat throughout.
