Subiaco With your hands

Beekeeper for a day at Monte Livata

Subiaco

Monte Livata is high beech wood above Subiaco, cool on the days Rome is unbearable, and the hives are up there among the trees. You put the suit on and open one of them.

How the day goes

  1. A breakfast of the farm's honey products first, before anything gets opened.
  2. Into the beekeeper's suit, then out to a working hive with the person who keeps it.
  3. The work of the apiary itself, done rather than watched, with the bees flying around it.

Bees are the whole point here: if being close to them worries you, the same farm runs a visit where the colonies stay behind glass.
