Two people picking grapes in a vineyard With your hands

Join the grape harvest

Monte Compatri

For the weeks the grapes come off the vines, a cellar in the hills above Rome opens its rows and puts visitors to work in them. You cut the bunches yourself, standing in the vineyard, and the rest of the year the day does not exist.

How the day goes

  1. Drive out of Rome into the Castelli, where the vines sit on the hill slopes above the city.
  2. Into the rows, in English if you want it: cutting bunches, filling the crate, at the pace the harvest sets.
  3. Add the platter to the booking and the end of it becomes lunch at the table.
  4. Back down towards Rome afterwards, with your hands still sticky.

It exists only while the grapes are coming off — outside that window the same cellar sits you down for a tasting, with none of the work in the field.

One thing we have not resolved: The cellar does not publish which weekends the harvest runs: that still needs a phone call.
