Monte Compatri

The last stop on Metro C comes out in the Alban Hills, and the woods behind the station are truffle ground. You spend the morning searching them and the afternoon eating what comes out, course after course.

How the day goes

  1. Metro C to the end of the line; the meeting point is the station itself, so no car and no transfer.
  2. Into the woods for the search — rough, uneven ground, so shoes you can walk properly in.
  3. Then the table: a truffle lunch with local wine, one course after another, no clock running.
  4. Back at the station in the late afternoon, on the same line that brought you out.

It is a morning on rough ground before it is a lunch — if you want the table without the walking, a vineyard day on the same hills does that instead.
