Subiaco

Monte Livata is high enough that the flowers arrive late and all at once, and the bees work a short, hard season. The farm up here follows the whole of it, from what the hive brings in to what ends up in the jar.

How the day goes

  1. Walk the apiary with the beekeepers and follow a hive through its year.
  2. See where the nectar goes once the bees have carried it home.
  3. Taste the honeys at the end and learn to tell one flower from another by smell.

It is built for families and school groups first, so expect explanation rather than quiet; the beech woods start at the road if you want the mountain to yourself.
