On the trailCivita stands on a plug of tufa with the valley eaten away all round it, and the only way in is a footbridge you cross on foot. The badlands underneath are still moving, which is the whole story.
Everyone crossing the bridge pays the village entrance, children included, and that is separate from the guide.
