On the trailMonte Soratte stands on its own out of the Tiber valley north of Rome: no ridge, no neighbours, one mountain in flat country. You walk up it from the village of Sant'Oreste with a guide, in a group small enough to talk.
Reaching the start needs a car, and the operator arranges carpooling within the group — if you are not driving at all, the truffle wood at Castelnuovo di Porto begins at a station.
