A hang glider is a rigid wing you hang under, not a canopy you sit in, and this is the only tandem within reach of Rome. The launch is the slope above Poggio Bustone.

How the day goes

  1. Watch the instructor rig the wing and check it over at the launch.
  2. Clipped in beside him, both of you hanging under the same bar.
  3. A few running steps down the slope, and the wing takes the weight.
  4. Prone above the Rieti valley, with the Apennines standing all round it.

You fly lying on your front, which is an odd position the first time; the Lazio slope flies from autumn to spring, and summer moves to Umbria.
