Collepardo

The roof of a cave fell in here and left a hole in the meadow with a forest growing at the bottom. You stand at the rail and look down onto the tops of trees, with stalactites hanging off the overhang above them.

How the day goes

  1. A short way out of Collepardo, on the slopes of the Ernici, with the ground opening in front of you.
  2. Round the rim, looking down at the floor and up at the concretions on the walls.
  3. On to the Collepardo caves, or up to the Certosa di Trisulti, for the rest of the day.

Nobody goes down into it: this one is looked at from the rim, and the walking underground happens at Pastena and Falvaterra.
