Alberese On the trail

Guided walks in the Maremma park with a licensed nature guide

Alberese

The Maremma is the coast Italy never built on: pine forest running down to the sand, cattle standing in the marsh, boar in the scrub. In high summer the inner paths open only with a guide, because of fire.

How the day goes

  1. Choose how you go in — on foot, on a horse, in a carriage, by canoe or on a bike.
  2. The guide takes whichever route is open that day, which changes with the season.
  3. The Uccellina hills, with the ruined abbey up on the ridge above the pines.
  4. The beach at the end of it, reached the long way round.

Summer is when the guided calendar is thickest and also when the park is hottest: early starts pay for themselves.
