Anguillara Sabazia

Martignano has no road along its shore and no houses on it — a small crater kept that way by the park. From a canoe you take in the whole rim at once, which is not something you can do from the bank.

How the day goes

  1. Meet the park group at the lake, kit on, a briefing before you push off.
  2. Along the shoreline at paddling pace, reeds on one side, the crater wall above.
  3. Back to the landing with the afternoon still there for the walk up to the ridge.

It goes out on the park's calendar rather than yours, and you should be at ease in the water before you sit in a canoe.
