Latina On the trail

Piana delle Orme history park-museum

Latina

Tractors, tanks, threshing machines and whole rebuilt farmhouses, pavilion after pavilion, on a plain that was marsh until men were brought south to drain it. Nothing about this place is a small collection.

How the day goes

  1. Start with the peasant world before the drainage: kitchens, carts, hand tools.
  2. Then the drainage itself, the machines and the settlers who did the digging.
  3. Then the war pavilions, with the Anzio landings told from the ground up.
  4. Out between the sheds when the children need space to run.

It is warehouse-sized, and rushing it is worse than skipping it: give it the afternoon rather than a stop between two other things.
