Italy found some of its first oil under Ripi, which is not the story this corner of Ciociaria usually tells about itself. The museum stands on the spot, and works through everything people have burned, dammed and pumped since.

How the day goes

  1. The route runs from wind and water through to the oil beneath the town.
  2. The Petroglie mine gets its own telling, from the ground it came out of.
  3. Hands-on laboratories next door, in what used to be the slaughterhouse.

The displays are in Italian; the parts you handle carry the visit if you are not reading them.
