Atina On the trail

Atina's archaeological museum, free, with three bilingual medieval stations

Atina

Inside Atina's ducal palace the Comino valley gets emptied onto shelves: grave goods, a sanctuary's offerings, coins and Roman inscriptions. Walking in costs nothing.

How the day goes

  1. The rooms run from the Italic peoples through to the late Middle Ages.
  2. Finds come from the necropolis at San Biagio Saracinisco and the sanctuary at Casalvieri.
  3. A coin cabinet and a wall of Roman inscriptions close the archaeological part.
  4. Then the screens: follow a monk, a knight or a pilgrim, in English as well as Italian.

Sunday opening happens on request rather than by timetable, so a weekend visit is worth arranging first.
