Carpineto Romano On horseback

One-day and multi-day rides in the high Lepini mountains

Carpineto Romano

The Lepini are high, wooded and empty, and this farm rides out into them for a day or for longer. It breeds the Pony d'Esperia, the mountain pony that belongs here.

How the day goes

  1. Off the Carpinetana road and up a wooded turning: chestnut, oak and olive, then beech.
  2. Into the yard above Carpineto Romano, where the guides put you on a horse.
  3. Out for the day, or keep going and sleep out on a longer trek.
  4. Meet the Pony d'Esperia, bred and trained here on its own mountains.

The rides run mostly in the warm months and everything is settled on the phone: ring and they will tell you the route and the cost.
