Farnese With your hands

Olive mill visit and oil tasting in the Alta Tuscia

Farnese

The Gentili have been pressing olives at Farnese for generations, out on the edge of the Selva del Lamone, where the rock is black lava and the oak wood closes in. The oil is Canino DOP.

How the day goes

  1. Inside the mill, where the fruit goes in one end and the oil comes out the other.
  2. The tasting: oil on its own, judged the way the people who make it judge it.
  3. The Lamone woods and Lago di Mezzano are both close by if the day has more in it.

The mill is at its loudest during the harvest, with the presses running; outside that season the visit is the story rather than the work.
