Montecchio With your hands

See an oil mill work, then taste five olive oils at the table

Montecchio

The old stone press stands still now, and the modern line runs a few steps away. Between the two you work out what a mill actually does, and then you taste what comes out of it.

How the day goes

  1. Start in the museum, among the old presses and the tools that went with them.
  2. Through the working line, where the olives go in and the oil comes out.
  3. Sit down for the tasting: their oils in a row, with bruschetta to carry them.
  4. Ask ahead and they add a masterclass, a fresh-pasta lesson or a walk through the grove.

Montecchio takes bookings only above a minimum group size — travelling as a pair, call their Orvieto address instead.
