The badlands around Civita are ridges of grey clay with nothing growing on them, and this route goes along the tops of them rather than looking across at them from the terrace in Lubriano.

How the day goes

  1. Down from Lubriano onto the ridges, with Civita on its rock across the valley.
  2. Exposed stretches where the crest narrows and the ground falls away on both sides.
  3. Back up the far side, with the whole eroded valley behind you.

The organiser is plain that anyone who suffers from vertigo should stay away; the walk between the villages gives you the same badlands from safer ground.
