The hives sit inside the Parco di Veio, Etruscan country of tufa gorges and oak wood at the top edge of Rome. A morning is spent at them, and then the honeys are tasted one against another.

How the day goes

  1. A morning at the hives with the beekeeper, watching how a colony splits up its work.
  2. The tasting after: millefiori, chestnut and honeydew, each from a different flowering.
  3. Jars to take away, with Veio's gorges and cut-rock tombs all around the farm.

The farm also opens on Saturday mornings for tasting and sales, which is the easier way in if a booked visit will not fit the trip.
