Terracina

Terracina

A day out in Terracina

A Roman temple on the headland, a long beach under it, and the sea route to Circeo.

12 days outthe nearest is a 1 h 53 drive from Rome

Terracina is where the Appian Way meets the sea. The temple of Jupiter Anxur stands on the cliff above the town with the whole coast laid out underneath, and the town below still has the Roman forum paving in its main square.

The water is the other half. Boats run from the harbour along the Circeo headland and out towards the islands, and the beach south of the town keeps going for as long as you want to walk it.
