You do not jump out of the aeroplane so much as get taken out of it. An instructor is strapped to your back, and the two of you leave together through the same door.

How the day goes

  1. Ground training first: the phases of the jump, the position to hold, how the canopy is flown.
  2. The climb, the door opening, and the moment at the edge of it.
  3. Free fall, then the canopy opens and the noise stops.
  4. A quiet ride down, then the video and the certificate on the ground.

The hard part is the door, and it arrives whether you are ready or not; if that is the bit you cannot picture yourself doing, this is not your day out.
