Monte Scalambra throws up thermals all through the warm months, so the wing does not simply glide down from Serrone. It can run the ridge and stay up there.

How the day goes

  1. Harness and briefing at the Scalambra take-off, high above the Ciociaria.
  2. The run off the slope, and the ground drops away from your feet.
  3. Along the ridge: Roiate and Olevano on one side, Piglio, Acuto and Fiuggi on the other.

Thermal air is lively air, and lively air moves the wing about; a polite glide is not what this hill is known for.
