Taking the controls of a helicopter at Rome Urbe airport

Rome

A helicopter has to be flown every second. At Rome Urbe they let you find that out with your own hands on the controls and an instructor in the seat beside you.

How the day goes

  1. The ground lesson first: what each control does, and what it does to the machine.
  2. Out to the pad at Urbe, inside the ring road, and up with the instructor.
  3. Take-offs and landings with the controls handed over, then the certificate.

This is flying rather than being flown, and it takes concentration throughout; a sightseeing flight leaves all the work to the pilot.
