Climb down the steps inside the Turk's Cave

Gaeta

The mountain is split and the sea comes into the crack. You go down the steps inside it until the rock opens onto the water and the noise fills the whole cave.

How the day goes

  1. Take the stairway to the left of the sanctuary church and start down.
  2. The steps drop between the walls, and the sound of the waves arrives before the light does.
  3. At the terrace the rock frames the open sea in a pointed arch. That is the view.
  4. Back up the same steps, which is the part your legs will remember.

It is a stair descent and a stair climb inside a wet cave: sturdy shoes are compulsory and rough weather can close it.
