Riding through the Castelporziano pines to Ostia beach

Ostia

The pinewood at Castelporziano stands between Rome and the sea, and the ride crosses it and comes out on the beach at Ostia. Go late in the day and the horses reach the sand with the sun going down over the water.

How the day goes

  1. Meet the horses at the stables and take the briefing before you get in the saddle.
  2. Into the pines, away from the road, on soft ground heading towards the coast.
  3. The trees end and the beach opens: sand, sea, and room enough to move.
  4. Back through the wood, and the rest of the day belongs to the coast.

Small children are not part of this one — a family with little ones will get more out of the treetop park at Grottaferrata, where the courses start very young.
