Terminillo is a two-thousand-metre massif above Rieti, close enough to Rome that it was developed as the capital's mountain in the nineteen-thirties. The resort is quiet now, and what people come up for is the walking.
In winter that means snowshoes: the plateau at Pian de' Valli, the ridge above it, and the traverse to the refuge. It is the closest reliable snow to Rome.
